Daria on DVD!

I don't know about anyone else, but I think it might be safe to say that Daria was the best show on MTV of all time. Period. The end. Yes, better than The Real World. Better than Made. Even better than TRL - and we know how much I love me some Justin Timberlake and *NSync.

Created in 1997, I was a mere 12 years old when Daria debuted. It defined my preteen and middle school years. I wanted to be witty and sarcastic like Daria Morgendorffer, have a crush on a bad boy like Trent and ditzily girly like Quinn Morgendorffer all at once. The show as a whole stayed in tune with 1990s and early 2000s pop culture and, as a whole, was somehow deep for a cartoon.

When the show ended in 2001/2002, I was in high school and my attention changed to other teenage geared shows. Still, Daria holds a special place in my television memory. Memories that can now be reignited in my mid-twenties with murmurs this week of Daria finally - finally - coming to DVD. It's so exciting I can hardly stand it. Now if I can only dig out my Daria-style wardrobe of Doc Martens and green blazers.

Or, rather. Okay. Some things can stay in the 1990s.

Audrey Hepburn, we love you so.

“You can always tell what kind of a person a man really thinks you are by the earrings he gives you” - Audrey Hepburn

No surprise that P and I are majorly obsessed with the one, the only, the legendary Audrey Hepburn. Maybe it was my outfit today (Theory black neck tie sleeveless top and pinstripe trousers), but I have been preoccupied with the Audrey Hepburn style all day long. Classic, elegant and timeless.

Who doesn't want to channel Ms. Hepburn in Breakfast at Tiffanys while she window shops and eats a croissant and drinks a latte? Who doesn't want those oversized sunglasses, cigarette extender and strand of pearls? Who can't thank Audrey Hepburn every time they slip on a pair of ballet flats like Princess Ann does in Roman Holiday? Nina Garcia (Elle Magazine's Fashion Director) reminds us in The Little Black Book of Style that the 1950s signified the "first marriage of a designer and a movie star - Audrey Hepburn and Givenchy." And while it's certainly not the 1950s anymore (thank goodness), the definition and epitome of style remains. Excuse me while I pop in my Audrey Hepburn DVD collection and throw on a cozy black cashmere sweater (it is only 54 degrees in Boston right now afterall).

Buttercup was always MY favorite

While cruising the interwebs this afternoon at work (shhh. don't tell anyone), I came across this post on ONTD. Am I the only mid-twenty-something that remembers how fantastically wonderful The Powerpuff Girls were? My best friends from middle school and I even designated who's personalities matched up with who. I, of course, was Buttercup. The fiesty brunette. Some things never change.
The DVD box set of the entire series goes on sale today (1/20). Go grab it, make a Shirley Temple, eat some Skittles and pretend you're 12 again. It's okay, I won't tell a soul.

Love means never having to say you're sorry...

Love Story star Ryan O'Neal and his son were both arrested after methamphetamine was found in O'Neal's bedroom during a "routine probation search" of his Malibu home.
Seems to be a family thing. Tatum O'Neal (his daughter, ahem, and Oscar-winning actress) was arrested for trying to buy crack cocaine from a street dealer earlier this year...which she then claimed was part of "research" for a movie role. Umm...yeah, right.
This makes me sad because I just re-watched Love Story on DVD the other night (Don't judge me...and anyway, I like the book better!...also, I love seeing the snowy scenes filmed in Cambridge/Boston, MA)

This is my fav. scene:

Jennifer Cavalieri: You look stupid and rich.
Oliver Barrett IV: Well, what if I'm smart and poor?
Jennifer: I'm smart and poor.
Oliver: Well, what makes you so smart?
Jennifer: I wouldn't go out for coffee with you that's what.
Oliver: Well what if I wasn't even gonna ask you to go out for coffee with me?
Jennifer: Well that's what makes you stupid.

Ok, I have to admit, it is hard not to gag throughout the movie...the lines ("Love means never having to say you're sorry," said TWICE no less haha) are incredibly cliched and cheesy...Ali McGraw, makes it worth it though. She had a huge impact on 70's fashion and is STILL given mentions in Teen Vogue ...Oh yeah, and speaking of "preppy classics" this one is for you M. (FYI, picking up bankers might have been the thing to do in the 90's...not so much any more!)
